How many holidays do post offices get in 2026?
Outside Delhi, 14 compulsory holidays fixed by DoPT for all Central Government offices, plus 3 chosen by the state's Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee (CGEWCC) – 17 in all. In 2026, Dr. Ambedkar's birthday (14 April) was also declared a holiday by DoPT OM dated 09.04.2026. Delhi / New Delhi has a fixed list of 17.
Who decides the 3 extra holidays for my state?
The CGEWCC in the state capital picks 3 from a list of 12 optional holidays (an additional Dussehra day, Holi, Janmashtami, Ram Navami, Maha Shivratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, Makar Sankranti, Rath Yatra, Onam, Pongal, Basant Panchami and one regional new-year festival). Its choice applies to all central offices in the state, and the Department of Posts asks circles to follow it.
Was Bakrid 2026 on 27 or 28 May?
The DoPT list had 27 May 2026. DoPT OM dated 22.05.2026 moved it to 28 May for Delhi / New Delhi. In other states the state committee decides; offices in Tamil Nadu, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Lucknow, among others, closed on 28 May. Check your office order.
What are restricted holidays?
Besides the gazetted holidays, each employee may take any 2 restricted holidays in the year from the restricted list (34 in the 2026 DoPT list, 32 in 2027). The optional holidays your state did not choose also go into the state's restricted list.
Is the 2027 list out?
Yes, DoPT issued the 2027 list on 16.07.2026 and the Department of Posts forwarded it to circles on 08.09.2026. State lists of the 3 extra holidays come later: Uttarakhand and West Bengal have published theirs; most states publish between October and December.

राज्य की राजधानी की CGEWCC 12 वैकल्पिक छुट्टियों (दशहरे का अतिरिक्त दिन, होली, जन्माष्टमी, राम नवमी, महाशिवरात्रि, गणेश चतुर्थी, मकर संक्रांति, रथ यात्रा, ओणम, पोंगल, बसंत पंचमी और एक क्षेत्रीय नव-वर्ष त्योहार) में से 3 चुनती है। यह चुनाव राज्य के सभी केंद्रीय दफ़्तरों पर लागू होता है, और डाक विभाग सर्कलों से इसे मानने को कहता है।
बकरीद 2026 – 27 मई या 28 मई?
DoPT सूची में 27 मई 2026 था। DoPT के 22.05.2026 के OM ने दिल्ली / नई दिल्ली के लिए इसे 28 मई कर दिया। दूसरे राज्यों में राज्य समिति तय करती है; तमिलनाडु, असम, हिमाचल प्रदेश और लखनऊ समेत कई जगह दफ़्तर 28 मई को बंद रहे। अपने ऑफ़िस का आदेश देखें।
प्रतिबंधित अवकाश क्या हैं?
राजपत्रित छुट्टियों के अलावा हर कर्मचारी साल में प्रतिबंधित सूची से कोई भी 2 छुट्टियाँ ले सकता है (2026 की DoPT सूची में 34, 2027 में 32)। राज्य ने जो वैकल्पिक छुट्टियाँ नहीं चुनीं, वे भी राज्य की प्रतिबंधित सूची में जाती हैं।
क्या 2027 की सूची आ गई है?
हाँ, DoPT ने 16.07.2026 को 2027 की सूची जारी की और डाक विभाग ने 08.09.2026 को इसे सर्कलों को भेजा। राज्यों की 3 अतिरिक्त छुट्टियों की सूची बाद में आती है: उत्तराखंड और पश्चिम बंगाल ने जारी कर दी है; ज़्यादातर राज्य अक्टूबर से दिसंबर के बीच जारी करते हैं।
